Obviously, allusions to our problems on earth should be made cleverly and subtly in an alternate universe. I don't want to be reminded explicitly of all the races on earth and of all the political turmoil. Which brings me to the major problem: it's the star-wars universe!The universe where everyone is from Nebraska.
And that's the point, you are forced to wonder about questions during the movie that are not star wars questions not even questions to help you think critically about the real issues behind them.

There was just not enough time allotted, and rightfully so, for them to explain meaningfully why a pilot that just died and Rose had a special bond. It doesn't make sense given the old starwars cast nor do they have enough time during the movie to justify casting a plethora of races into main roles. If the franchise isn't making money, then the franchise can't sustain itself, and is going to die.In short, because it's obviously forced to sell tickets at the expense of making sense. People were even comparing the movie postersīut that doesn't change the fact that a hefty bulk of movie profits come from China, and the movies are tanking over there. For The Force Awakens they removed John Boyega from all of the advertisements - the previews, the movie posters, everything in the Chinese release because they knew having an black actor front and center would hurt the movie's success there. Star Wars did not do great in China in part because China is a very racist country that does not like black people. That's just not going to go over well with Chinese audiences and it didn't. The Last Jedi was poorly received there for a lot of reasons, but one of the big ones was because people now knew that a black actor was going to feature prominently and further John Boyega ends up in a romance with an Asian character. These movies have actually bombed over in China, because they're sick and tired of this half assed attempt to pander to a diverse audience over proper story telling. All because they care more about shoe horning in some kind of political message than giving us a well written and compelling story. Their toys aren't selling, their comics aren't selling, and now even their movies are starting to see a decline in profits. If they continue to maintain this form of story telling, then the subsequent movies aren't going to do as well, because the audience knows it's going to be terrible ahead of time.įrom the sound of the current state of affairs, Disney has actually been losing money, because more and more people are getting pissed off at them.
